Francesco when did you start with archery?
I started shooting with an archery at the age of 7. At the time it was only a hobby as I already practiced several sports, but with the passing of years, thanks to the group with which I shot, archery had become a real passion and they began to get the first results.
When did you start competing in level competitions?
In 2018 I participated in my first Italian championships in FIARC, the federation to which I was enrolled at the time, and, despite being my first experience at international level, I managed to win the national title. At the end of the same year I decided to change federation and moved to FITARCO, main archery federation in Italy, and despite the level of competition was much higher I managed to win two national titles in the first year.
As for all the sportsmen you will have suffered a sudden stop because of the situation Covid…how did you get over that period?
With the beginning of Covid, even the archery was blocked, but I had the opportunity to continue training at home, and with the reopening of competitions began to arrive the first results and in 2021 I managed to qualify for the youth national team in 2022. Despite a difficult period at the beginning of my time with the blue jersey, already in the first year came the first call to the European Youth Championship in Lilleshall in England.
Tell us about this important event for your sports career
As a first trip, I was not so lucky because of the weather conditions absolutely not favorable but despite this I managed to win my first medal at international level with my team, winning the silver in U18 teams.
In recent years the level of competitions has risen a lot, but also my skills and scores, and I decided to start gaining experience by starting to make numerous international races, as the World Cup final at the Indoor World Series in Nimes.
Thanks to archery I have met many people with whom I have spent unforgettable competitions and I hope to make many more during my career.
In your resume I also see that you have obtained a second place in the category under 21 at the Lausanne Excellence Challenge, it seems to me a result worthy of note, do you want to tell us about this experience?
In November 2023 I participated in the Indoor World Series in Lausanne, Switzerland, qualifying for the Youth World Cup final in Nimes.
Although there were not many opponents I tried to take advantage of the opportunity to compete in one of the most beautiful indoor courses in the world to try to match or improve my personal record, which at the time was 581/600. Although I couldn’t improve it, I at least matched what was my goal, and placed second after the 60 arrows of qualification. The first match was valid for qualification to the gold final, and I would have to face it against the Belgian, Henri Demey.
During the semi-final I was confident, and managed to win quietly with a score of 145-141, qualifying for my first individual international final.
In the final I had to compete against a great friend of mine, Lorenzo Gubbini, who managed to beat me, also complicit a bit ‘bad luck as many of my arrows were out of a few millimeters from 10..
Despite losing in the final it was one of the most important experiences I have ever had and I can’t wait to come back this year and try to win gold.
what are your future goals?
Next year will be full of important trips and events including the Indoor World Series, in Lausanne, Strassen and Nimes. These competitions will be very important to continue to make experiences abroad and try to win some medals at international level. The outdoor season will be equally important as it will be my last as a member of the junior national team and as the World Youth Championship will take place, to which I would like to get a medal.
